Obituary

Elaine P. (Patterson) Shabeck, 99 years of age died peacefully on Thursday, July 7, 2022 following a period of declining health.
She was born in Arlington on March 1, 1923 the daughter of the late Richard W. Patterson and Gladys (Bower) Patterson.
Elaine is survived by her devoted and loving daughter Cynthia E. Taylor and her husband S. James Taylor of Natick. Cherished grandmother of Stirling Erik Taylor of Brighton. She was the wife of the late John C.L. Shabeck who died in May 2002. Elaine also leaves behind her beloved and faithful companion cat, Abby.
Elaine resided in Wayland for the past 62 years and spent her formative years in Newton. She was a graduate of Newton High School and received her Associates Degree in Secretarial Sciences from Westbrook Junior College, now known as the University of New England in Maine. For many years, Elaine was employed by Raytheon Corp. in Wayland as a secretary for 10 years prior to her retirement. Elaine enlisted and served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. She attained the rank of Yeoman 2nd Class before being Honorably discharged in June of 1946.
She and John were among the founding members of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit in Wayland. They loved square dancing with friends in the Framingham area during the early 1970’s. For over 30 years, they loved to travel throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico in their Airstreamtrailer. They were member of the Wally Byam Caravan Club International.
For several years, she worked at the Mormon Church in Weston as a Genealogist. She spent countless hours tracing her family genealogy as well as assisting others. She was a talented sewer, enjoyed needlepoint and arts and crafts of all types. She will be remembered and loved by all who knew her.
Visitations will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (off Rt 30), Wayland.
Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at 11:00 am.
Interment will follow in the Shabeck family lot in North Cemetery, Wayland.
