Alfred “Crofty” Croft, 87, of Westport, passed away on July 8th, 2022. Surrounded by his loving family, Alfred lost his courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Survived by his wife of 39 years, Muriel (Mongeon) Croft, his children, David Croft, Emma Croft, Alfred Croft (Shelly), Donna Ferreira (John), Kevin Croft (Maria), Judith Pyne (Christopher), Sandra Croft, Matthew Croft (Kelly) and Meredith Croft (Albert). He was a loving Pepere to many grandchildren, great grandchildren and a loving uncle to several nieces and nephews. Alfred is survived by his sister Frances (Croft) McDonald.
Alfred is predeceased by his parents, Alfred O. Croft and Margaret (Gray) Croft and his sister, Margaret Leger.
Alfred was born and raised in Fall River, MA before moving to Tiverton, RI. He spent the last 39 years as a resident of Westport. He was a 1954 graduate of Diman Vocational High School and served in the Army National Guard, as well as volunteered for Civil Service and Southcoast VNA/Hospice. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church, where he donated time and his skills when needed. He was in a barbershop choir/quartet, a drummer in a jazz band and spent many years as an Independent Light Dragoon (fife & drum). Alfred retired from Johnson & Johnson as a Production Planner, after having spent his career at various manufacturing companies.
He enjoyed spending time with family, telling a good dad joke and traveling for many years in an RV with his wife Muriel. Additionally, he loved cheering on the New England Patriots and viewing live theater. In his younger years, he was often found on the airwaves as an amateur radio operator (call signs K1DML & W1ADC). He was a very talented woodworker and electrician. There were few things he couldn’t fix. Alfred really enjoyed ice cream and was often found with a pint of Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia in hand.
Calling hours will be Thursday, July 14th at Potter Funeral Home from 4-7 P.M.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are invited will be Friday, July 15th at Our Lady of Grace Parish, 569 Sanford Road, Westport, MA 02790 at 11 A.M.
Internment will be private.
