Lt. Col. (Retired) William Jackson “Bill” Clements, 90, of Tifton passed away Thursday, July 7, 2022, at Tift Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2022, at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Chula, with the Rev. Aaron Frazier and the Rev. Larry Layfield officiating. Mr. Clements will be laid to rest at Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Chula with full military honors. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 10, 2022, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mr. Clements will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Members of the military will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Chula.
Born September 13, 1931, in Berrien County, Mr. Clements was the son of the late Luther Frank Clements and Laura Jane Exum Clements. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Virlin Yvonne Pearman Clements; his step-mother, Vernice Preston Clements; two great-grandchildren; one brother, James Franklin Clements; and two sisters, Ruth Stowe and Betty J. Daughtry. Before retiring, he was the owner/operator of Clements TV. After retiring, he worked at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. He was a retired veteran, Lt. Col. in the United States Army and served 3 years active duty in Korea, 21 years in the Georgia Army National Guard and 14 years in the Army Reserve for a total of 38 years. He had been a member of the Exchange Club of Tifton for many years. He had lived for 57 years on Hoke Pearman Road in Tifton and he was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Chula, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.
Mr. Clements is survived by his wife, Betty F. Cromer of Tifton; three sons and daughters-in-law, William F. “Buddy” and Mary Clements and Larry E. Sr. and Kim Clements, all of Tifton and Robert A. and Stevie Clements of Ellijay; one daughter and son-in-law, Debra J. and Donnie Robbins of Ty Ty; his step-children, Ronnie and Stacy Cromer of Townsend, Bill and Debbie Cromer of Sycamore, Terri and Danny Gibson of Macon and Cathy and Tommy McDaniel of Tifton; nine grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and fifteen step great-grandchildren.
