Obituary

Robert “Bobby” Rego, 69, of New Bedford passed away on Monday July 4, 2022.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Jayme M. and Edith (Medeiros) Rego, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.

Bobby was formerly employed by the Opportunity Center in New Bedford. In his younger years, he was well-known for riding his bicycle throughout the Dartmouth Street neighborhood near Cundall’s Pharmacy. He was a communicant of the former St. John the Baptist Church, but would often be seen at weddings and funerals at various churches throughout the South End. He had been a participant in the Special Olympics and loved to go bowling. He was a loving son and brother, who spoke to his brother every day over the telephone.

His family would like to thank all of the staff at the Loftus Street home of Comprehensive Mental Health Services for the loving care and kindness shown to Bobby.

He is survived by his brother, Jayme Rego and his wife Sandra; three cousins; and his extended family from CMHS.

His Memorial Service will be held on Thursday July 14th at 10 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday July 13th from 4-7 PM.
