Clifford, Mariagnes Gallagher, age 95, passed away on Monday, July 4. Born on January 9, 1927 in Pittsburgh, PA she was the second youngest of three children and daughter of Helen and Regis Gallagher.
She attended Mrs. Connelly's Finishing School in Pittsburgh and after graduation worked for US Steel Corporation. She married George F. Clifford in 1950 and soon moved to Boston where she worked for the Harvard Business School. In 1955 they moved to Menlo Park, CA until 1962 before moving to Wellesley, MA where she remained for 30 years raising her four sons. In 1975 she began a 25 year career working at The Rivers School and Day Camp. She was an Officer at the Wellesley Hills Women's Club and a member of the Skating Club of Boston.
Mariagnes was charismatic, warm and had a great zest for life. She was an avid traveler and a lover of music, taking great pride in having season tickets to the Boston Symphony. She was active into her later years, figure skating, swimming, dancing, and even downhill skiing into her 70's.
Mariagnes is survived by her children: Kelly and Sandy Clifford of Hudson, MA, David Clifford of Woonsocket, RI, Bruce and Michele Clifford of Chatham, MA, Stephen and Emily Clifford of Natick, MA, eight grandchildren: Kara, Colleen, Kyle, Ryan, Alexandra, Peter, William and Evelyn Clifford and her sister Nancy Tavis of Wellesley, MA. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother William Gallagher.
Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St. Wellesley on Tuesday, July 12, at 10am followed by a funeral Mass at St. Paul Church, Wellesley at 11am.
