Helen Allen Jones, a long-time resident of Chestnut Hill, PA and more recently of South Dartmouth and Westwood, MA died on Friday, May 12th at the age of eighty-eight. Mrs. Jones had a long career in horticulture and artistic flower arrangements. She served as a Vice President and Director of the Garden Club of America and chaired its Flower Show Committee. She won many prizes for arrangements in flower shows as well as several GCS achievement medals. She was also an accredited Artistic Judge for over 50 years. In addition to her horticultural interests she was a sports enthusiast with skills in tennis, sailing and ice skating. Mrs. Jones was married in 1940 to Horace C. Jones, a retired textile executive. They have 7 children, Trina, Ann, Conrad, Joy, Margo, Joe and Spencer -- as well as 22 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Jones was a Dame of Malta, and she was active in many church and parish activities in both Philadelphia and Dartmouth, MA, where the family moved in 1990. The family will celebrate her life privately at a funeral Mass on Monday and hold a memorial service early this summer in South Dartmouth, MA at a time to be announced.
