Obituary

Melvin “Mel” Rosenblatt (91) of Gloucester passed away on July 5. He was the beloved husband of the late Martha Rosenblatt who sadly predeceased him by only two weeks. Mel was the devoted father of David Rosenblatt and his wife Ellen and Judy Sockol and her husband Eric. He was the dear brother of the late Robert Rosenblatt and his wife Fran. Mel was the loving grandfather of Daniel Rosenblatt and his wife Melissa, Alyson Basil and her husband Miles, Sarah Rosenblatt, Jessica Ginsberg and her husband Bryan, and Sam Rosenblatt. He was the adoring great grandfather of Seth Rosenblatt, Simon Rosenblatt, and Colby Basil.

Mel had an illustrious career as a CPA and trusted business advisor with the Worcester accounting firm, Greenberg, Rosenblatt, Kull & Bitsoli. For many years, he served as Managing Partner and CEO of the firm. A graduate of Clark University, he was a devoted alum who served in many capacities over 55 years. He was an instrumental member of the Board of Trustees for 16 years including Chairman of the Board in the late 1990s. After retirement from his business career, Mel moved permanently to Gloucester, a community that he loved. He was a fixture around town volunteering on the Democratic City Committee. He was a patron of the Rockport Shalin Liu Performance Center and a regular at the old and new Gloucester YMCA where he built lasting friendships during and following his morning workouts. Mel loved Good Harbor Beach and dipping into its icy waters. He was an avid body surfer for decades well into his 80s until his legs became a little too wobbly to withstand the surf.

Services will be held at Temple Ahavat Achim, 86 Middle Street, Gloucester on Sunday, July 10 at 11 AM. Burial and memorial observance will be private. Donations in Mel’s memory may be made to the Martha and Melvin ’53 Rosenblatt Fund at Clark University, 950 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01610.
