WEBSTER - Joseph A. “Sonny” Borski, Jr., a permanent resident of Bradenton Florida, aged 88, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at Hawthorne Center for Rehabilitation in Sarasota, FL after a short period of declining health.
He leaves his wife of 59 years, Janice A. (Wagner) Borski; 4 children, Michele T. Richard of Oxford, Christine M. Skiba of Douglas, Jason A. Borski of Cumberland, RI, and Justin C. Borski of Bradenton, FL; 5 grandchildren, Noelle and Nicholas Richard, and Benjamin, Maxwell and Amelia Skiba; a sister, Jacqueline Arpin and her husband Gerard of North Grosvenordale, CT; nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by 6 brothers Ronald, William, Theodore, Kenneth, James and Gary Borski and by 4 sisters, Erna Krysinski, Shirley Rekowski, Janet Borski and Kathleen Champagne.
Joseph was born on August 19, 1933 in Webster, the eldest of the 12 children of Joseph A. Borski, Sr. and Alice (LaPlante) Borski and lived in Webster most of his life. For many years, he spent the winters in Florida. He graduated from Bartlett High School in 1951 and went on to earn a certificate from New England School of Accounting.
Mr. Borski became a Certified Public Accountant in 1953 and became self-employed in 1961, operating his own CPA business until age 78. He also drove a taxi in the 1950’s.
Joseph was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, served on the Finance Committee, and taught CCD classes for several years. He was inducted as a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 228 for many years and belonged to the Webster Lions Club.
Active for numerous years in town politics, Joseph was Webster's Town Moderator for multiple terms, after having served as Assistant Moderator for 20 years. He was a member and Chairman of the Bartlett High School Building Committee. He also served as a member and Chairman of Webster School Committee, for various terms totaling 18 years and also the Webster Housing Authority for 15 years. He was Chairman and Vice-Chairman on building projects at Golden Heights, the town’s senior housing complex, and was Vice-Chairman of the town DPW Garage Building Committee. He was also the town's Fence Viewer for over 20 years. He was a longtime member of the Board of Directors of the former Commerce Group, now MAPFRE Insurance.
Joseph enjoyed traveling with his family in his travel trailer while the children and grandchildren were growing up and then was able to take trips to Europe with his wife. He and Janice would also take their grandchildren on cross-country trips. He loved video and photography and was always there with his camera for photos and films. He was an avid fisherman, liked listening to and singing Gregorian Chant, and loved to cook holiday family meals.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, July 11, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 16 East Main Street. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Sunday, July 10, in the funeral home.
