Marie White Thompson, 78, of Tifton passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2022, at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Chula with the Rev. Larry Layfield and the Rev. Aaron Frazier officiating. Mrs. Thompson will be laid to rest at Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Chula. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 9, 2022, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mrs. Thompson’s grandchildren, Jake Thompson, Coty Thompson, Davin Thompson, Kiley Thompson, Austin Akridge and Brad Akridge will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Hattie Benson, Joyce Smith, Faye Hall, Joan Underwood, Linda Ross and members of the Mount Zion Adult II Sunday School Class.
Born January 9, 1944, in Tift County, Mrs. Thompson was the daughter of the late Cleve White and Ethel Frazier White. She was also preceded in death by two brothers. She was a school bus driver for 33 years and she was the first female Little League baseball coach in Tift County. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Chula.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by her husband, Bobby Thompson of Tifton; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Craig and Rhonda Thompson of Knoxville, Tennessee, Kirby and Cathy Thompson and Kipp Thompson, all of Tifton; one sister, Audrey Castleberry of Ty Ty; six grandchildren, Jake Thompson, Coty Thompson, Davin Thompson, Kiley Thompson, Brad Akridge and Austin (Stephanie) Akridge; and three great-grandchildren, Tammy Akridge, Evelyn Akridge and Atlas Akridge.
