Cameron Edward Woodard died on June 30, after a lengthy battle with congestive heart failure. He was born at the South Shore Hospital, South Weymouth, MA on March 16, 1950.
Cam was the son of the late J. Edward and Betty H. (Hogg) Woodard where he grew up on their dairy farm, “Peaceful Valley” of East Bridgewater, MA. He was a loving son, brother, uncle and great uncle. Cam is survived by his sister Jerilyn “Jeri” (Woodard) Wassmouth and her husband Ken of Hanson, MA, his nephew Jay Wassmouth and his wife Carole and their children Brittany and Evan of Pembroke, MA and his nephew Zach Wassmouth and his wife Marissa and their children Aurora and Cecilia of Dedham, MA.
Cam graduated from East Bridgewater High School in 1968 where he ran Cross Country and Track. He then went on to UMass Amherst and Stockbridge, where he was a proud member of the Alpha Tau Gamma Fraternity. In 1971 he earned an AS in Agricultural Business Management from Stockbridge, in 1973 he earned a BS in Agriculture.
After learning the ropes working on a sod farm in Rhode Island, he opened his own sod business in East Bridgewater, MA. Hard work was Cam’s hobby, he also loved watching history programs. He was very skilled at welding, even making special tools to get repairs done. He had a mind like a steel trap, never forgot a thing. A human GPS, Cam could find his way anywhere. He proudly served on the East Bridgewater Agricultural Commission from 2005 until his death.
Cam loved to travel and had visited all of the United States but Alaska. In his youth Cam was an amateur radio operator, WA1FVF, a member of the Whitman Radio Club, he kept his license but has been inactive. He is also a member of the First Congregational Church of Whitman, where he was baptized and went to Sunday School, though he has been inactive for many years.
