Obituary

With heavy hearts, the family of Benjamin Goddard Mague, age 74, announce his passing on July 4th, 2022. He spent his final moments surrounded by family and in the thoughts of those who could not be near.

Ben was born in Machias, ME on May 17,1948 to his parents, William and Priscilla Mague, and spent his formative years engaging in creative mischief with brothers Joel and Timothy and cousin Jonathan on the family farm. He attended Mt. Hermon School, then Colby College where he built his first pipe organ, and finally the University of Wisconsin, Madison where he received his Master’s of Music in Organ. A short stint in the Navy found him in Cuba connecting with the chaplain’s daughter, Kathy, with whom he fell in love and was married for 48 years. His lifelong career was at the Andover Organ Company where he remained for 47 years, eventually serving as company president. For over 52 years, Ben was an organist and Minister of Music for several churches and naval chapels. He served The First Congregational Church of Milford, NH for 34 years before retiring in 2019.

In addition to his dedication to service and music, Ben was devoted to his family and provided them with constant care, wisdom, and wit. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy; his three children and their spouses, Jeremy (Danielle), Steve (Claire), and Anna (Garrett); his three grandchildren, Ryan, Kaylee, and Genevieve; his siblings Joel (Suzanne), Deborah, and sister-in-law Francie, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and brother Timothy.

He will be dearly missed by all. Given Ben’s humanitarian character, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund by Global Giving or the American Heart Association.

A celebration of Ben’s life will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at 11am in the First
Congregational Church of Milford, New Hampshire. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium of Derry and Londonderry, NH is assisting the family with arrangements. To send a condolence, please visit www.peabodyfuneralhome.com
