WORCESTER___Roland L. “Shorty” Lajoie, 90, of Worcester died on Monday July 4, 2022 in UMASS – Memorial Medical Center – University Campus. His longtime companion, Rose M. Sorel passed away in 2018.
He leaves his sister, Elaine C. Fleming and her husband, Robert of Upton; two daughters, Donna Lamarche and Laurie Lane and her husband Ken, five grandchildren, six great -grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Roland was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Spedden and by his former wife, Vivian Lajoie. He was born in Worcester, a son of the late Alphonse and Cecile (Jubinville) Lajoie and has lived here all of his life.
Mr. Lajoie worked several years for Independent Plating Co., Worcester before retiring. Previously he had worked many years in building construction and years ago he was a mechanic for Billings Auto. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict earning the rank of Corporal. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School. Roland had a lifelong love for woodworking and animals. He was a member of St. Joseph Church - Holy Family Parish.
The funeral will be held on Friday, July 8, 2022 from HENRY - DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St, with a Mass at 11:00 AM in St. Joseph Church, 35 Hamilton St. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. A calling hour will be held in the funeral home on Friday July 8, 2022 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Food for the Poor Program, 44 Temple St, Worcester, Ma 01604.
