Worcester: Betty A. (Strand) Gustafson, 90, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022 in the Jewish Healthcare Center. She leaves a daughter Sandra A. Duguay and her husband Kevin Duguay of Holden; a son David A. Gustafson and his wife Lisa (Ward) Gustafson of Sturbridge; and four grandchildren, Zachary Duguay and his fiancé Holly Morin of Barre, Allison Duguay of Holden, Tyler Gustafson and his partner Kellie Stewart of Sturbridge, and Justin Gustafson of Maine. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years Robert D. Gustafson, a grandson Joshua Gustafson, and siblings Martin C. Strand, Dorothea Schaffer, and Ebba Wilder.
Betty was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Martin C. Strand Sr. and Edith M. (Peterson) Strand. She was a graduate of North High School and the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She and Bob were married on May 18, 1957 in Zion Lutheran Church. She worked as a registered nurse for vascular surgeons at Memorial Hospital for many years. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Holden, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, was active in the Lutheran Church Women group, and lead the Senior Koinonia program. Betty loved her God, family and friends, nursing, and sports. She enjoyed playing BINGO, crafts, and music programs while she lived at the Jewish Healthcare Center where she received excellent care.
A calling hour will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2022 from 10 – 11 a.m. in Immanuel Lutheran Church, 346 Shrewsbury St., Holden, MA 01520. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the church. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton, MA.
