Jose "Joe" C.N. Alves, 65, of Acushnet, passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the longtime fiancé of Gail A. Dean, with whom he shared 37 years.
Mr. Alves was born in Santa Cruz, Madeira, Portugal, son of the late Manuel F. and Celestina (Nunes) Alves and had been a longtime resident of Acushnet. He had worked as a bricklayer for the Bricklayers Allied Craftsman's Workers. An avid gardener, he loved planting and growing vegetables. He enjoyed Bob Marley music. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and he was very excited to learn that he was going to be a grandfather.
Survivors alone with his fiancée include his daughter: Amanda M. Dean and her fiancé Alan Cuthill of Acushnet; his brother: Manuel Alves and his wife Maria of New Bedford; his sister: Maria Freitas and her husband Roy of Dartmouth; uncle Cristiano and wife, 3 aunts Ermelinda, Merces, Deolinda; along with with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was the brother of the late Joao Jose Alves.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are invited will be Friday, July 8, 2022 at St. Mary's Parish, 440 Main St., Fairhaven, MA 02719 at 11:00 A.M.
Calling hours will be Thursday, at the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Rd., Westport, MA 02790 from 5-7 P.M.
Interment will be in Acushnet Cemetery, Acushnet.
