Joan Marie McDonough, 92, of Dorchester, passed away on July 28, 2022 from natural causes.
She was born on March 30, 1930 to Anthony and Rose MacDougall in Somerville, Mas-sachusetts.
Joan grew up in Waltham and Newton, and she attended St. Bernard’s High School.
She married Thomas McDonough and had one son, Simon.
She worked as a telephone operator for many years and retired from the telephone company in 1988. In retirement, Joan attended Boston College’s extension school for retirees. She said this was one of the most enjoyable periods of her life, giving her the opportunity to study and make great friends.
Joan was an avid traveler who loved taking road trips to Maine and Florida, She loved books, movies, plays and music. She was once part of a community theatre group in South Boston hav-ing the lead role in a production of Sean O’Casey’s Juno and the Paycock.
When people picture her, it is with a smile on her face. She will be missed.
Joan is survived by her brother, Jack, her son, Simon, her nephews, John and Leo, and her nieces, Catherine and Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Richard and Francis, and her husband Thomas.

Services will be held at 10AM on July16th at Saint Teresa of Calcutta 800 Columbia Road, Dor-chester, MA 02125.
