George Edward Marshall, 88, of Ledyard, passed away June 30, 2022 ,at his home surrounded by his loving family. George is survived by his loving wife Marjorie Jane (Green). George was the son of the late Anthony and Doris (Rogers) Marshall.
George was a proud Teamster driving for American Propane and Hess Oil. His passion for pulling horses led him to work as a “real Teamster” for Baily’s Express where he trained and drove horses just prior to his retirement. He was very well known on the horse pulling circuit, and later became a fixture at the Pennsylvania livestock auction. George had many Amish friends and often stayed at the Smucker farm helping with chores and watching five generations of that family growing up.
In addition to his wife, George is survived by his daughter Judy Gernhard of Vernon; son Mark Marshall (Alyce) of New Milford, Pa.; stepdaughter Mary Gernhard (David) of Salem; stepson Mike Rogers (Donna) of Niantic; and his many loving grandchildren; and great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son George JR; daughter Linda; stepdaughter Jae Summers; sisters, Betty and Mickey; and brothers Tony, Donny and Ray.
George’s family will greet friends and relatives from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 9, at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic, followed by a graveside service at Avery-Stoddard Cemetery in Gales Ferry.
