Mr. Oscar H. Greene, Sr. a longtime resident of Medford and beloved husband of the late Ruby (Frierson) Greene, passed away at the Courtyard Nursing Center in Medford on Thursday evening, June 16, 2022. He was 104 years old.
Born in Williamstown, Massachusetts, on May 28, 1918, he was the beloved son of the late Oscar and Cornelia (Lockwood) Greene. Mr. Greene was a WWII US Army veteran, entering the military at New York on December 19, 1944 and received his Honorable Discharge from Fort Dix, New Jersey on August 3, 1946. Oscar was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon, the WWII Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal, for his exemplary service.
In civilian life, Oscar worked for General Electric as a Technical Writer, for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading and writing, was the author of two books and was a longtime member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Medford. He will be dearly missed.
Oscar is survived by his loving daughter-in-law; Marie Greene of Londonderry, New Hampshire. He was the loving father of the late Oscar H. Greene, grandfather of the late Jeremy S. Greene and Shawn E. Greene and brother of the late Jane and Juanitta.
His Funeral Service will be celebrated in the Grace Episcopal Church, 160 High Street, Medford on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Interment will be held in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. Donations in Oscar’s memory may be made to the Grace Episcopal Church, 160 High Street, Medford, MA 02155.
