John M. Thornton, 82, died peacefully on Friday, June 24, 2022 at Emerson Hospital following a period of declining health.
He was born on February 25, 1940 the son of the late Thomas F. Thornton, Sr and Vera E (Kholer) Thornton.
John received his Masters degree from Boston University and had a distinguished career with the Department of Defense at Hanscom Air Force Base as a Financial Analyst. He enjoyed the time spent with his family at their Wayland home and trips to Lake George. He was a fan of Boston sports teams including the Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins and the New England Patriots.
John is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Ida M. (Gallant) Thornton of Wayland. He was the devoted father of John M. Thornton, Jr. and Matthew T. Thornton both of Wayland. He was the brother of Arleen Jackimowicz of Mansfield and Mickey McCallum of East Hampton as well as the late James Thornton, Thomas Thornton and Henry Thornton. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitations will be held on Friday, July 1, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (off Rt. 30), Wayland.
Family and friends are invited to go directly to his Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at 10:00 am at Good Shepherd Parish at ST. ANN CHURCH, 124 Cochituate Rd (Rt 27), Wayland.
Private interment will be held for his family at a later date.
