Obituary

Marjorie Anne ‘Margie’ (Stewart) Covel, 88, of Tewksbury, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at Lowell General Saints Hospital. She was the widow of the late Albert ‘Al’ L. Covel who passed away April 24, 2019 after 62 years of marriage.

She was born in the West Roxbury neighborhood of Boston on August 10, 1933 and was one of three children of the late James Henry Stewart and the late Mary Eleanor (Cummins) Stewart. She was raised and educated in the Allston area, receiving her education from Rosary Academy in Brighton. After high school while attending Hitchcock Secretarial School, she began working at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. After raising her children, she returned to work as a secretary at Belmont Hill’s High School, before working for the Arthur D. Little Company where she retired as a purchasing agent after over 17 years of dedication.

In 1957, she married the love of her life, Al, and began their family. They lived in Arlington for fifty-two years before retiring to Eagles Landing in Tewksbury and Lake Winnipesaukee in Gilford, NH. Margie was a member of St. Camillus Church in Arlington and St. Williams Church in Tewksbury since 2014.

Margie is survived by her five children, Christopher Covel of Jefferson, ME, Michael Covel and his wife, Kathy of Tewksbury, Elaine Medley and her husband, Richard of Haverhill, Paul Covel and his wife, Carolyn of Tewksbury and Marjorie Eagan and her husband, Christopher of Tewksbury. She is also survived by her beloved 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; her brother, James Stewart and his wife, Linda of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister, the late Eleanor Chimeniello.

On Thursday, June 30, 2022 all are welcome to attend her calling hours from 4-8 p.m. at Tewksbury Funeral Home, 1 Dewey Street, Tewksbury, MA. Her funeral will begin on Friday morning at 9:30 at the funeral home, followed by her funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Williams Church, 1351 Main Street, Tewksbury. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Catholic Charities of Boston, 275 West Broadway, Boston, MA 02127.
