Valerie "Vee” (Rice) David passed away on June 15th, 2022, at the age of 59. She was born in Boston, MA, but raised in West Medford, MA.
She was born to Shirley Ann (Reavis) Rice and the late James Clifford Rice. She was a 1981 graduate of Medford High School. After graduating Medford High School, she graduated from Wilfred Academy for Cosmetology, doing hair was one of her passions. She also completed classes to become a Medical Secretary and later attended the New England School of Bartending. She also loved being a bartender. For many years Vee worked at Ken’s Pub in Cambridge, Packy’s, Connolly’s Stardust Room, VFW in Cambridge, and the Ebony Club. She was best known for making Long Island Iced Teas at Ken’s Pub where she worked and managed for over 7 years. Vee also worked for the Massachusetts State Police for 19 years until she went on disability.
Vee enjoyed doing volunteer work. She started a girls basketball league, GIA (Girls In Action) with Leigh Canada in 2017 at Dugger Park. She volunteered for West Medford Reunions, West Medford Community Center’s Labor Day events, Malden’s Bread of Life, she was also the creator of the “Medford Got Talent”, talent shows. Vee was also president of the West Medford Lobster Fest for several years, as well as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 45.
Val was a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Baptized by Pastor Gerald Bell in 2014, she served faithfully wearing many hats. She served as the Chair for the Koinonia (Kitchen) Ministry, Financial Secretary, and also served as a member of the Board of Trustees, she served wherever there was a need. She gave her life to GOD.
During her younger days, she was on the West Medford Drill Team, and she also enjoyed Tap, Jazz, Ballet, and Acrobatics with Cheryl Shaw’s Dance Company. She also danced with her cousin Ya Ya, at Cheryl Sullivan’s Dance Studio.
In May of 1991, she was blessed with a baby girl, Cha’Nae Ann Diamond, and in September of 1993, she was blessed with another daughter, Te’Rez Angela David. She loved being a mother to her girls. Vee and her daughters had more than just a mother-daughter relationship, they were best friends. She was so proud of both girls. Vee also loved being a grandmother to Jeremiah King Edouazin-David, and Amiyah Rae David, who she loved dearly.
Vee leaves her daughters, Cha’Nae, and Te’Rez, her mom Shirley, sister Beverly, grandchildren, Jeremiah and Amiyah, and a whole host of Family and Friends to cherish her memory.
Her Funeral Service will be celebrated in the Shiloh Baptist Church, 1 Holton Street, Medford on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Visitation will be held in the church, prior to the service, from 10 to 11 AM. Interment will be privately held. To join via ZOOM:
