Obituary

PFANNENSTIEHL, Frederick George resident of Boston and Naples, FL, and formerly of Newton Centre, Wellesley and Wayland, MA, passed away June 26 surrounded with family. He is predeceased by his first wife Nancy Elizabeth (Tabb) in 1992 and he is survived by his wife Julia Sparks (Borchardt). He is also survived by son and daughter in-law Craig and Allie Pfannenstiehl of Weston, MA; son Curt Pfannenstiehl and fiancée Donna Van Schagen of Dover, MA; daughter and son-in-law Christy and Chip Bergstrom of Wellesley, MA; stepson and daughter-in-law Paul and Kelly Borchardt of Winchester, MA; and stepdaughter and son-in-law Lauren and Chris Guthrie of Wellesley, MA. He loved and adored his grandchildren Curt, Owen, Emma, Hannah, Charlie, Ethan, Ellie, Jack, Lola, Amelia, Caroline, and Connor.

Fred was born in Boston and spent his youth in Newton Centre. He attended the Rivers School and Tufts University. After graduating he went to Officer Candidate School with the U.S. Navy and served two years achieving rank of Lieutenant JG. Beginning his career at IBM and LandVest, he then went into business owning and running Burdett College, Bay State College, and Indiana Business College/Harrison College.

He was active on several boards and charitable endeavors including serving nearly 50 years on the Board of the Mount Washington Bank, succeeding his father. He was a Lifetime Trustee of the Rivers School and served on Boards including the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, the USS Constitution Museum, the Paraclete Center, the Massachusetts Historical Society, Thompson Island Outward Bound, and the Collier Senior Center.

Visiting Hours will be held at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St., (Rt.16) Wellesley, Thursday, June 30 from 4-7PM, with a service at St. John the Evangelist Parish in Wellesley Hills at 11AM on Friday July 1 followed by a reception at Brae Burn Country Club in Newton. Relatives and friends kindly invited.
