Beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother
CHELMSFORD Francelina Duarte, 92, of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully in her sleep, on Friday, June 24, 2022, at Lowell General Hospital. She was the beloved widow of the late Joseph Duarte who died in 2019.
A daughter of the late John and the late Adelaide (Sousa) Bettencourt, she was born May 28, 1930, in Santa Cruz, Graciosa, Portugal, and was raised and educated there. In 1960, she came to the Untied States with her family settling in Lowell first on Charles Street, then on Chapel Street, and then they bought a home on Wamesit Street in 1966.
Francelina loved her family and was always the smiling hostess when family was around. She was a wonderful cook and seamstress and graced her family with fantastic feasts and heartfelt hand made items. She had worked as a stitcher for Nathan Solomon retiring in 1978 after twelve years of employment and was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church.
Her survivors include her daughter, Mary Urbowicz and her husband, Robert, of Chelmsford; her grand daughter, Stacie L. Sirois and her husband, Scott, of Chelmsford; her great grandson, Holden Sirios of Chelmsford, additionally, she is survived by Amy Urbowicz, who was like a granddaughter to her; her brother, Florentino of Rhode Island; her sister, Egualdina Lima of Canada; and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews and many extended family and in laws throughout the United States, Canada, and Portugal.
She was predeceased by her siblings including, Maria Ciprian and Urbino Bettencourt.
You are invited to her Visitation on Wednesday from 9:30 until 11:30 at the MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816. Her Funeral Mass will be offered at ST. ANTHONY’S CHURCH, 893 Central Street, Lowell, at 12 P.M.. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.
