Sylvia Hanson Nelson, 77, of Tifton passed away Monday, June 20, 2022, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta. A graveside funeral service will be held for Mrs. Nelson at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 24, 2022, at Oak Ridge Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest. Bishop Todd Brey will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 24, 2022, at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m.
Born June 11, 1945, in Tifton, Mrs. Nelson was the daughter of the late George Burnett Hanson and Ophelia Treadwell Hanson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Gregory Phelps Nelson; one daughter, Lori Sue Nelson Walker; seven brothers; and one sister. Before retiring, she worked as a nurse in Alaska and she had also been an airport security guard. She was a military wife and she loved her family.
Mrs. Nelson is survived by four sons, William Gregory Nelson of Ocilla, Terry Scott Nelson of Atlanta, and Harold Dorden and David Dorden, both of Tifton; one brother, Aubrey Gene Hanson of Griffin; one sister, Nancy Ann Palmer of Fort Myers, Florida; fourteen grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
