Matthew George Tavares, 27, of Dartmouth passed away unexpectedly on June 16, 2022.
Born in Fall River, he lived in Dartmouth all of his life. He was educated in the Dartmouth public schools and played horns in the band. He was a graduate of Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School. He was employed as a truck driver, working for various local towing companies.
Matt was a loving person with a huge heart and the most handsome smile. Almost from birth he was fascinated with firefighting. He frequently visited local fire stations and museums and participated in the Dartmouth Junior Firefighters program. He loved music, animals and anything to do with motor vehicles of every kind. He enjoyed attending street racing events and concerts with his dad.
He is survived by his father, George Tavares and his wife Lori Correa of Westport, his mother, Jennifer Howland and her husband George of Dartmouth, his brothers, Blake and Brock Tavares of Westport, his grandparents George and Marjory Tavares of Westport, Gerard Surprenant of Fairhaven, and Geraldine Perry-Lopes of Dartmouth, and aunts, uncles, and cousins, and his beloved dog Sadie.
He was predeceased by his grandfather, Norman “Pops” Lopes.
