Paul R. Van Scoten, Jr., 89, of Londonderry, NH completed his faithful journey Sunday June 19, 2022 at the All American Assisted Living facility. Paul was born in Manchester NH, on June 6, 1933 and grew up in Derry, NH. He was a son of the late Paul R., Sr. and Pauline (Carpenter) Van Scoten. Paul married Joanne Knight in 1955 and were married 62 years. In 1970 they built their dream home on Goonan Road in Hooksett, NH and resided there for 46 years.
Paul worked at the New England Telephone Company from 1956-1991. After retiring Paul drove a school bus in Manchester for two seasons. Paul’s Christian faith was a central part of his life and known to many. He brought many people to know the Lord. Paul was one of the first to greet visitors to the church and always made them feel welcomed. Paul served much of his life as an Elder at several churches which include North End Church of Christ, later known as Manchester Christian Church as well as Riverside Christian Church in Merrimack, NH. For many years Paul enjoyed volunteering for the church food pantries at both Manchester Christian Church and Riverside Christian Church. He also loved singing in church choirs and was a member of the Dove Singers for many years.
Paul joined the United States Army in 1952 and served in the Korean War as a machine operator where he reached the rank of Sergeant. He was honorably discharged in 1956, and then joined the US Air Force and served in the reserves.
He is survived by three children, Paul R. Van Scoten III, of Manchester, NH, Pamela Martel of Merrimack, NH, and Kerry L. Devore of Decatur, IL, six grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Joanne K. (Knight) Van Scoten, in 2017, and by his sister in 2012, Arlene Johnson, formerly of Coventry, RI.
Following cremation, visitation will be held at Londonderry Christian Church, 372 Mammoth Rd, Londonderry, NH on Friday July 1st from 4:00 to 5:00 pm with a memorial service following.
Burial with honors will be held at the NH State Veteran’s Cemetery in Boscawen, NH at a later date. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium of Derry and Londonderry is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the NH Food Bank, 700 East Industrial Park Drive, Manchester NH
