Marian was born in Tifton to Floyd and Mildred Moon on October 3, 1944. She went to undergraduate school at Wesleyan University and got her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Georgia. She married Kenneth D. Harrod on February 12, 1977, in Tifton. She worked tirelessly as a social worker for the Department of Child and Family Services in Worth and Cobb counties for 20+ years.
Marian enjoyed playing the piano throughout her youth and listening to brilliantly composed classical music. She also had an eye for beautiful flowers and enjoyed filling her yard with them. Her favorite pastime by far was keeping up with her immediate and extended family, whether over the phone or around the kitchen table. She wanted to know how everyone was doing and make sure they were well supported in their endeavors.
Marian is preceded in death by her mother, Mildred; her father, Floyd; her dear brothers, Allen and Morgan; and her niece, Missy Moon.
Marian is survived by her husband, Ken Harrod; son, Alex Harrod; daughter, Katherine Harrod; grandsons, Chase and Connor Harrod; siblings, Floyd Banks Moon, and Garland Moon; nieces, Claire Moon, Catherine Moon Maraman, Becky Moon Palmer, Hannah Moon McSwain; and nephews, Patrick Moon, Jason Moon, Floyd Moon, Buck Moon and Monty Moon.
Memorials may be given to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (aspca.org) or the Atlanta Botanical Gardens (atlantabg.org).
The family of Marian Harrod wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the caring and generous staff of Tranquility Hospice at Kennestone.
