WORCESTER___Theresa M. A. (Naumiec) Courtney, 94, of Worcester died Tuesday, June 14, 2022, in St. Vincent Hospital, 123 Summer St. Her husband John Francis Courtney died in 1992.
She is survived by her three sons, Retired Fire Lieutenant Donald Courtney (Barbara) of Worcester, Joseph Courtney (Laurie) of Bellingham, and Francis Courtney of Worcester; three grandchildren, Robert, Sean, and Rachel; three great grandchildren, Haley, Cameron, and Riley; many nieces and nephews. She was born in Worcester one of ten children to Joseph and Petronella (Chomicz) Naumiec. She was the last of her siblings, Edward, Adolph, John, Francis Naumiec, Stasia Bogigian, Elizabeth Sutton, Jane Skog, Wanda Koskie and Florence Callahan to pass away.
Mrs. Courtney attended St. Mary’s School in Worcester and like so many others, dropped out of school to go to work in the factories to help support her family while her brothers went off to fight in World War II. She retired in 2009 from the College of the Holy Cross after working twenty-years in their housekeeping department. Previously she worked at Howard Johnson Hotel.
She was a member of Sacred Heart-Saint Catherine of Sweden Parish. She enjoyed walking (which she did every day to work) crocheting, bingo, and trips to Foxwoods. Theresa always had a positive outlook and enjoyed being with family and others. Her smile and kindness will be remembered by many, especially those who she sold game cards to at the Friday Night Bingo Games. She will also be missed sitting in the back row of the Church at Mass.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 27, 2022, at 10:30 am in the Mausoleum Chapel of Notre Dame Cemetery, 162 Webster Street, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart-Saint Catherine of Sweden Parish, 596 Cambridge Street, Worcester, 01610.
