Arthur Nicholas Capeci, 89, of Boston, MA and Montauk, NY, passed away on June 13, 2022, after a brief illness.
Arthur was born on May 14, 1933 to Arthur and Greta Capeci in Portchester, NY. After graduating from Stepinac High School, he went on to study engineering at Manhattan College and later computer engineering at NYU Tandon School of Engineering (formerly Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute). Arthur worked for many years as an engineer and program manager for AMF and United Technologies. He both designed systems and managed projects related to military radar and other defense systems. His passion for computers inspired him to build a “personal” computer at home with his children in the 1980s.
Arthur had a lifetime love of the sea and fishing. He first read about sport fishing at Montauk Point in Field and Stream Magazine and on his 16th birthday borrowed his father’s car and drove to Montauk to fish. This began his lasting connection with Montauk. Arthur later built a summer home there and shared his love for fishing and Montauk with his children and grandchildren.
Arthur was blessed with a large and loving family. He married his childhood sweetheart Dorothy Ann Bishop October 17, 1959 with whom he raised six children in Ridgefield, CT. Arthur treasured spending time outdoors with his family. When his children and grandchildren were young, he frequently took them skiing, hiking, and fishing, and he loved to grill and have cookouts. He will be fondly remembered for his optimism, his love of games such as pinochle and horseshoes and for his sense of adventure by fixing a boat engine while slowly taking on water, skiing in a blizzard or swimming off the boat in the open Atlantic.
As a result of his love for the mountains, skiing, and outdoors, Arthur retired in Plymouth, NH. In his “free time” he restored three antique homes; one of which was a beautiful turn of the century Victorian that he called home for close to 30 years. He also enjoyed gardening, boating, and fishing, and spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Arthur was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Greta Capeci and his daughter Cynthia (Cindy). He is survived by his wife Dorothy, his sons Douglas (Michele), Jeffrey (Tanya), and John (Ronda), son-in-law Robert, his daughters Patricia Dykes (John) and Allison Palmer (Richard), his 14 grandchildren Jeffrey, Gregory, Michael, William, Lily, Matthew, Bradley, Greta, Erin, Elizabeth, Andrew, Emily, Ryan, and Jack; his brother Theodore (Arlene).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Therese of Lisieux in Montauk, NY on June 22, 2022 at 11 AM. A memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of Good Voyage in Boston on June 26, 2022 at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Matthew’s Parish, Plymouth, NH.
