Michael "Irish Prince" Burke, a lifelong Charlestown Townie, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford. He was 68 years of age.
Mike was born in Boston on December 24, 1953, a son of the late William G. Burke and Dorothy M. (Moore) Burke. He grew up in Charlestown where he attended St. Francis De Sales Parochial School and Charlestown High School. He entered into the United States Navy on February 22, 1977 and served his country with honor and pride. He was discharged on November 21, 1977 due to a medical condition with the rank of Seaman Apprentice. Mike worked for the City of Boston as a Carpenter Assistant for many years. He was very involved with the Bedford V.A. for 43 years, where he volunteered his time helping out the other veterans at the facility. Mike was a very kind and giving person throughout his life and always thought of the other person before himself. Mike struggled and coped with mental illness throughout his adult life.
Mike is the loving son of the late William G. Burke and Dorothy M. (Moore) Burke. He is the beloved brother of Jimmy Burke and his wife Ginny, Billy Burke and his wife Karen, Lois Burke, Kevin Burke and his wife Cathy, Geraldine Burke, Stephen Burke and his wife Debbie, and the late Daniel P. "Danny" Burke, Dorothy "Dotty" Burke, and Gina Burke. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mike's Funeral Service on Friday, June 17, 2022 at 1 P.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. His burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne will be private.
