Mrs. Georgette J. Ghilain, a longtime Medford resident passed away peacefully, Sunday June 12, 2022, at the Medford Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, following a period of declining health. She was 94. Georgette is the beloved wife of the late Alfred Ghilain. Born in Geraardsbergen, Belgium she was the daughter of the late Robert and Clara (De-Froy) Cauwel.
Georgette left Europe in 1952 as a young girl with her sister and sailed to the United States arriving in Boston and leaving behind the hardships that the people back home were facing during WWII. With determination and her hard work ethic she was able to face the challenges of being in a new country, learning English, finding a new home and work. When her husband Al retired from driving a cab in Boston, they moved to Florida. Georgette along with her husband Al worked for many years at the Pasadena Community Church where she was a greatly valued employee. In her leisure time, Georgette enjoyed reading and going antiquing. She will fondly be remembered for her loyalty and devotion to family and friends, her hard work ethic and ability to persevere, and her contagious laughter. She will be greatly missed.
Georgette is survived by her sons; John Ghilain and his wife Diane of Malden, Frederick Ghilain and his wife Yolanda of San Carlo, CA. She is the loving grandmother of Rachael DeCicco and her husband Matthew of Beverly, and Chief John Daniel Ghilain USCG. Loving great grandmother of Leah DeCicco and Matthew DeCicco, Jr. Cherished sister of Nancy Van Der Roost of Pinellas Park, FL.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours at the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Wednesday, June 22nd, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. A funeral service will begin at 12 p.m. and services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Georgette's memory to the Alzheimer's Assoc., 309 Waverley Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452.
