Jo Edith Rutland Lindsey, 89, of Tifton passed away Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 16, 2022, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton’s First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Wayne Roe and the Rev. Lonnie Lacy officiating. Mrs. Lindsey will be laid to rest at Zion Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 16, 2022, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton’s First Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service.
John Alan Lindsey, John H. Lindsey, Raymond Evans, Wayne Purvis, Lester Potts and Ike Kent will serve as pallbearers.
Born February 12, 1933, in Tifton, Mrs. Lindsey was the daughter of the late Elias O’Quinn Rutland and Eunice Jackie Willis Rutland. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bobby B. Lindsey; one son, Bobby “Joey” Lindsey; and two sisters, Patricia Rutland Harvey and Frankie Rutland Horner. She graduated from Tifton High School in 1951 and attended ABAC. She was a member of Tifton’s First Baptist Church, where she helped establish the Children’s Library. Before retiring, she had worked in the Tift County Clerk of Court office; WWGS Radio; Tri-County Gas Company; and the Citizens Security Bank. She was a member of the Pink Ladies Auxiliary at Tift Regional Medical Center; the Camellia Garden Club; and was former president of the Tifton Garden Council. She was also an active member of the ABAC President’s Club. She taught flower arranging in the Continuing Education Department at the Rural Development Center.
Mrs. Lindsey is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, John Alan and Tina Lindsey of Tifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Al Kent of Tifton; and one granddaughter, Ava Lauren Lindsey.
