James Thomas ‘Jimmy’ Espinola, 74, of Pelham, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
A son of the late James and the late Filomena (Simone) Espinola, he was born May 16, 1948, in Lowell, and was raised and educated in the local schools. He made his home in Lowell for more than fifty years, and more recently lived in Pelham, NH.
A longtime local business man, Jim loved Lowell, especially the countless discussions and political battles at the Owl Diner roundtable where he had made many lifelong friends. His knowledge and passion for the game of golf was unrivaled and he was a longtime member of Mount Pleasant Golf Club as well as a prominent member of the Golf Collectors Society. Jim was considered one of the top golf memorabilia collectors in the World, and had written ‘The Story of the Golf Ball’.
He is survived by his children, Katie Espinola of Groton and Chris Espinola and his wife, Maggie, of Lowell; his four grandchildren, who meant the world to him, Eva, Jadyn, Gavin, and Camille; his beloved significant other for more than thirty years, Ladonna Harris; and his many lifelong friends and golf enthusiasts. He was also the former husband of Susan Lorrey.
You are invited to his committal prayers at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 96 Riverneck Road, Chelmsford, on Friday, June 17, 2022, at 10 a.m.
Following the committal, a celebration of his life will be held at Mount Pleasant Golf Club, 141 Staples St, Lowell, MA 01851, from 11am - 2pm.
In lieu of flowers we ask all of Jim’s friends and family to spend the day with loved ones in memory of him, preferably on the golf course.
