Irving Calman Liftman entered into rest on June 5th after a brief hospitalization at UMass Memorial in Marlboro. Beloved husband of the late Joyce R. (Solod). He is survived by his son, Scott, daugther-in-law Michele and two grandchildren, Jared and Gabriel Liftman. He was predeceased by his brother Alvin Liftman and sister Gloria Sitron.
Born on 10/19/36 in Chelsea Ma., he graduated from Chelsea High School in 1954 and went on to Northeastern University, where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration. He started his career as an inside sales representative where he held several positions, having worked at Bernstein's Beauty Supply for owner Sam Bernstein who was the father of the famous Leonard Bernstein.
He later worked as an inside sales representative for Charles Alden Music Co, where he once won a motorcycle for being the top performer in a company wide sales contest. For the latter part of his career, Irving served as an outside sales rep. in the hardware industry for Sattellite Products of Piscataway, NJ.
He moved to Randolph, MA in 1970 where he built a life with his wife Joyce and raised his son, Scott. After the death of his wife in 2010, Irving moved out to the Metrowest area and lived a number of years with his son and family.
Despite having chronic health issues for the majority of his life, Irving made the best of his situation and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He dedicated all of his energies to being a positive role model and mentor to his immediate family.
Irving was especially proud of his sister who worked for the late Senator John F. Kennedy in the 1950's and then followed him to Washington, D.C. where she continued on as a White House Aid when he was sworn in as President. In addition Irving was able to meet President Kennedy on several occasions.
Irving was a man of few material possessions but many principles. He had a tremendous sense of humor and was widely known as the king of puns. In his free time, he enjoyed following and discussing current events and going out on long walks with his grandson, Gabriel.
Irving will be greatly missed, as he enhanced the lives of all he had met. Funeral Services will be Thursday @ Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton, MA, at 1:30 pm followed by an interment at Sharon Memorial Park. Shiva will be held at the house of his son Scott at 3 Skyline Dr. Framingham, MA 01701 Thursday June 9th from and Friday June 10th from 12 noon to 8:00 pm and Sunday June 12th from 2:00 pm til 9:00 pm.
