Melvin H. Harris, 87, of Whitman, Massachusetts died peacefully at home on Saturday, June 4th, 2022 after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family.
Melvin was born on September 5, 1934 in Hanson, Massachusetts to Samuel and Doris (Foster) Harris.
Mel joined the Naval Air Division of the United States Navy at the age of 17 where he proudly served for 20 years, achieving the rank of CPO. After retiring from the Navy, Mel worked as a Union Plumber for 10 years.
Melvin leaves behind his wife, Wanda (Krukiel) Harris, with whom he shared 68 wonderful years of marriage. He also leaves behind three children, Kenneth W. Harris of Hanson, Wanda J. Salvatore, and her husband Arnold, of So. Weymouth, and Roger A. Harris, and his wife Michelle, of Marshfield, 6 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
Mel loved spending time with his family and traveling to various locations with Wanda over the years, especially their weekly bus trips to Foxwoods with their friends later in life.
Melvin will be buried at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at a later date.
