Wells, Maine - Diane Marie Hutzler, 66 of Wells, ME, passed away on the 1st of June with her two daughters holding her hands at York Hospital.
She was born April 24, 1956 in Kittery, ME, to Ernest and Barbara Cope. Diane grew up around the country traveling as her dad was in the Marines. She lived in North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Virginia, Arizona and Maine. Diane grew up as her dad’s tomboy. She could out run, out jump and out score most of the boys in the neighborhood. She taught her sister how to dance (although she was never as good!) and won a talent show dancing to “Build Me Up Buttercup.”
Diane was a very good bowler. She had a competitive spirit and played in many state tournaments. Her kids have memories of spending many evenings at the bowling alley playing video games and eating bowling alley dinners. If you knew Diane, you knew that her good luck charm had always been elephants with their trunks up. You could find them around her home as well as one around her neck.
Diane, a strong willed, independent, and hard-working woman, was also funny, loving and loyal. Her best trait was being an amazing mother, giving her daughters the world by sharing her strong work ethic and huge heart. During her life she worked in many aspects of hospitality, with her most recently owning her own business: Wells Seacoast Taxi. She had many loyal friends and customers and you could be sure no one would be without a ride. She also was an avid New England sports fan with her most favorite team being the Wells Warriors.
Diane is predeceased by her parents, Ernest and Barbara Cope. She is survived by her three children, Thomas (and Sabrina) Kennedy of Westminster, CO, Christie (and Jedd) Brown of Henniker, NH, and daughter Nicole Hutzler (and partner Bernardo Martinez Jr.) of Wells, ME. She also is survived by her beloved grandchildren Cristian Martinez, Blythe and Beauregard Brown, and Yisa, Marisa, Czadina and Thomas, Jr Kennedy. Her beloved “bonus” grandchildren are Joshua, Isaiah, Josue, Leticia, Jonathan, and William Martinez. She also leaves behind her two sisters, Denise Plante (and Dana) of Sanford, ME and Darlene Greenlaw (and Tori) of Cambridge, ME as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins from the Brewster and Cope families.
Her family meant the world to her. Diane gave everything in spite of herself and was cherished by all who knew her. She will be forever missed.
A graveside service will be on Sunday, August 7th at 9 a.m. at the Ocean View Cemetery in Wells, ME with an informal brunch at the Wells Harbor Pavillion following immediately. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Wells-Ogunquit Youth Football and Cheering Association, online at www.woyfca.org or at WOYFCA, PO Box 656, Wells ME 04090.
