Obituary

Joan G. Doherty (Foye) of Dorchester, MA passed away June 02, 2022.

She was a beloved daughter of the late Gerald and Loretta Foye of Boston, MA. She is predeceased by her loving and caring husband Charles R. Doherty. Joan aka mom was a fun-loving Mother who always enjoyed a party and passed that along to her children Dianne Driscoll and her fiancé Ted Devin of Weymouth, Michael Derby and his wife Judy of Weymouth, Maureen Doherty of South Boston, Brian Doherty I of Dorchester and the late Richard Derby and Linda Schmidt.

She is survived by her grandchildren Joseph Driscoll, Kristin Driscoll and fiancé William Moran, Tina and Joe Donahue, Amanda Schmidt, Savannah Cronin, Willette Schmidt, Arianne Doherty, Hannah and Ben Ireson, Michael and Katie Derby, Timothy Devin, Brian Doherty II, Brendan Doherty, Nicole Derby and is predeceased by Michelle Driscoll and Erin Derby. Nana Joan was proud of her grandchildren and always checked in on them to see how they were doing and get someone to take her shopping.

Nana also loved nothing more than spending time with and hearing about her great grandchildren Madison Driscoll, Jacalynn Donahue, Joseph Donahue Jr., James Toland, Shamus Derby, Patrick Cronin, Avery Driscoll, Bella Long, Brielle Garvey, Brian Doherty III. She loved hearing about their activities and letting them get whatever toy or candy they asked for, taking them for blueberry pancakes, visiting the arcades and much, much, more. They brought her so much joy and happiness.

Joan came from a South End family of seven, she had the fondest memories of her siblings Margaret (Dolly) Burrows, Lester Foye, Linda Pietrantonio and predeceased by Mary MacNeil, Billy Foye, and Gerald (Buzzy) Foye as well as her wonderful in-laws, to many to mention.

Joan or Joannie to some was a kind, generous, giving women who loved her sweets, dogs, and cats. She was Mrs. D to her children’s friends, and all were always welcome. She could not pass up a clearance sale or teaching her family to coupon. “She made sure to include all in her daily rosary.” She consistently went out of her way to make sure no one ever went hungry, and she reached out to help anyone in need. She loved and appreciated every one of her large extended family, her Bellflower friends, Broadway friends, life-long South End friends and all others that crossed her path over the years.
