Helen A. (Ahrens) Egan a resident of Melrose for over 50 years, died on Monday May 8, 2006 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital following a long illness. She was 85 years old.
Helen was born in Malden on March 16, 1921 and grew up there, where she attended Malden Public Schools and graduated from Malden High School in 1939. She worked for several years in the cafateria at Melrose High School and also at Wakefield Vocational High School. For most of her life she was a homemaker and dedicated her life to caring for her daughter Linda. Following the death of her daughter, Helen worked for several years at Normandy House Nursing Home in Melrose.
Helen was the beloved wife of the late Edward H. Egan, Jr. She is the beloved mother of the late Linda J. Diggin and Peter R. Egan. Helen is the devoted grandmother of Melissa A. Diggin and Kristina M. Copithorne and her husband Marc all of Melrose. She is the beloved mother-in-law of Joseph Diggin of Melrose. Helen is the sister of Ruth Pauline of Florida and the late G. Ethel Weinstock and Adelbert "Sonny" Ahrens.
Helen's Funeral Service will be held on Thursday May 11, 2006 at 10 am. at The First Baptist Church 561 Main St. Melrose. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours for Helen will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2006, from 2 to 4 pm. and 6 to 8 pm. in The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main Street, Melrose. Burial will take place at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
