Sally Irene “Rene” (Sanders) Ruefenacht, 98, of Anderson passed away with her family by her side on May 29, 2022 at her home.
She was born on January 11, 1924 in Wise, Virginia to William Guy and Lucy Ellen (Dotson) Sanders.
She worked at Delco Remy and retired after 30 years. During World War II she worked on the Manhattan Project to build the first Atomic Bomb in Oak Ridge, Tennessee (which at the time she had no idea what she was helping to build).
She was a 60 year member of Middletown Chapter of Eastern Star #110. She enjoyed playing cards, spending time with her family, traveling, doing ceramics and playing golf.
She is survived by her daughter, Pam Butz of Anderson; three granddaughters, Amber (John) Longnaker, Heather (Randy) Jones, and Tiffany (Lonnie) Patton; 8 great-grandchildren, Mallory (Clint) Shoemaker, Isabel Longnaker, Graham Longnaker, Lacey (Greg) Krathwohl, Nicole Wilbur, Jessica (Adam) Waters, Justin Patton, and Jacob Patton; 4 great-great grandchildren, Lilly and Ivey Andrews, Hayden Moss, and Piper Quinn; a sister, Irma Humerickhouse; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Ruefenacht; a son, Larry Ruefenacht; three brothers, Arlie “Bud” Sanders, Gerald Bevins and Harold Bevins; two great-grandchildren, Caleb Longnaker and Ayrika Dunwiddie; a great-great grandchild, Cora Clingerman; a special aunt and uncle that raised her, Lilly and Lilon Bevins.
Funeral service will be on Friday, June 3, 2022 at 10:00 am at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Bob Bell officiating. The burial will take place at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Thursday, June 2, 2022 from 5:00-8:00 pm at the funeral home with a memorial service by Middletown Eastern Star #110 at 7:30pm.
