James T. “Jim” Hines, Sr., 88, of Worcester died Friday, May 27th in the Rose Monahan Hospice Residence surrounded by his family. He leaves his wife of 14 years, Mary G. (Ryan) Hines; a son, James T. Hines, Jr. and his wife, Julie of Auburn; two sisters: Mary M. Hines of Worcester, and Rita Scully and her husband, William both of Worcester; two grandchildren: Meghan and James T. Hines, III; and many nieces and nephews including, Colleen Dowd and Kevin Scully. He was predeceased by his first wife of 43 years, Nancy A. (O’Connell) Hines; a sister, Anna Wheeler; and a brother, John Hines.
He was born in Worcester the son of Michael F. and Nora (Corcoran) Hines and graduated from Boys Trade. Jim worked at Coppus/Tuthill Engineering for 43 years where he began as a machine operator and retired in 1999 as an inspector. Mr. Hines was a member of several antique car clubs including the Central Mass Antique Auto Club and was a founding member of the Worcester County Model A Club, which he served as president in 2007. He was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church. Jim enjoyed spending his winters in Florida with Mary and trips with the Model A Club.
Jim’s funeral is Wednesday, June 1st from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday, May 31st from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
