Obituary

Raymond J. ‘Ray Ray’ Smith, 78, of Lowell, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Lowell General Hospital after after a brief illness.

A son of the late Paul E. Smith and the late Mary C. Smith, he was born May 12, 1944, in Lowell, and grew up on Cady Street and was educated in Lowell, attending St. Peter’s Grammar School and graduating from Lowell High School.

He made his lifelong home in Lowell was a member of the Lowell Lodge of Elks, B.P.O.E. # 87 as well as a member of the Firefighters Club. Ray Ray loved to golf and was also a member of the Mount Pleasant Country Club.

He worked in the parts department of Al Leneau Chevrolet and then worked for Butler Chevrolet for several years before working at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell on the University Police Department for over twenty years before his retirement.

In addition, he worked as a bartender at Cappy’s Copper Kettle and at The Whipple Cafe for many years, and enjoyed time spent there making lifelong friends with many.

His survivors include his extended family and the many good friends he made throughout his lifetime around the city.

He was predeceased by his brother, Paul E. Smith.

You are invited to his calling hours 10 a.m until 12 noon on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at the MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 Highland Street, Lowell 978-458-6816.

His Funeral Service will be held at 12 Noon at the Funeral Home following the visitation. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery.
