Obituary

William “Wendell” Hobbs, age 91, of Tifton, Georgia passed away peacefully at home on May 23, 2022. The House family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a service at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals, following COVID rules. The Hobbs family will receive friends at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals, following COVID rules, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2022. A graveside service, where his body will be laid to rest, will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Tift Memorial Gardens.

Born December 14, 1930, in Tifton, Wendell was the son of the late William Walker Hobbs and Clyde Evans Hobbs. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife of fifty-three years, Ruth Copeland Hobbs and his brother, Troy Hobbs. Wendell was a member and supporter of Zion Hope Baptist Church.

Mr. Hobbs is survived by his second wife, of seventeen years, Annette Swain House Hobbs; three daughters and one son-in-law, Gail and Jimmy Hill of Dawsonville, GA; Kay Martin of Albany, GA; and Gwen Highsmith of Rome, GA. Mr. Hobbs is also survived by four grandchildren and their spouses. Chris and Rachel Hill, Miranda and Patrick Skonie, Bobbie Kaie and Kyle Law, and Macayla Highsmith. He has seven great-grandchildren, William Hill, Ben Hill, Jon Hill, Emma Skonie, Madeline Skonie, Jackson Skonie and Kaia Law. He is also survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Harold Ogletree of Tifton, GA and a sister-in-law, Martha Hobbs of Ashburn, GA.

Mr. Hobbs is survived by four step-children and their spouses; Hank and Margaret House of Tifton, GA; Jesse House and Carole Lewis of Ashburn, GA; Pamela Mitchum of Pensacola, FL; and Elizabeth Owens and Jace Glick of Denver, CO; ten step-grandchildren and their spouses and seventeen step-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Hobbs served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Afterwards, he returned to Georgia and spent the next forty years enjoying his love of farming. He then turned a pasture on his farm, into a subdivision. He and his wife, Ruth, worked together to build over twenty houses.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to their Zion Hope Baptist Church family, friends and the entire community for their prayers, love and support during this time. Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to a charity of choice.
