Obituary

Ethan S. Barnes, 30, of Fairhaven died peacefully May 19, 2022.
Born in Fall River, beloved son of Haywood S. Barnes, Jr. and Andrea M. Garr-Barnes of New Bedford, he lived in New Bedford before moving to Fairhaven 10 years ago.

He was a proud member of United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local #328 in Wilmington, Massachusetts for several years.
He enjoyed being with his children and his dog “Minnie.” Coaching the New Bedford Bears football team, riding his Harley motorcycle, camping with friends, attending Patriots games, Celtics games and traveling with his companion, Carly. He was looking forward to attending Providence College Friars basketball games to watch his cousin Bryce Hopkins #3 play basketball.

Survivors include his parents; his children, Easton Barnes and Nia Barnes and their mother Brittany Duarte, all of New Bedford; his companion, Carly Barboza of Dartmouth; 2 brothers, Haywood Smart Barnes, III and his wife Nakita of New Bedford and Maurice Garr Barnes and his wife Angela of Everett, WA, his grandmother, Millicent L. Garr of New Bedford, MA; 6 nieces and nephews, Amyah Barnes, Haylee Barnes, Barrett Barnes, Brooklynn Barnes, Jaxon Barnes and Dominik Barnes; 7 aunts and uncles, Dolores Garr of Stone Mountain, GA, Michele Garr of New Bedford, Thelma Peoples of North Carolina, Dorothy Grant-Graham of Maryland, April Thomas and her husband Harry Thomas of Atlanta, GA, Marcy Arocho of Newark, New Jersey and husband Elpidio and Fred Grant of Germany. Ethan is survived by several cousins Alexis “Lexi” Garr of New Bedford, April Glover, Aaron Grant, Robert Graham, Kyla Perry, Andre Graham, James Peoples and Arthur Peoples.

He was the youngest grandson of the late Maurice "Mickey" Garr, Haywood S. Barnes, Sr. and Louise Grant.

Ethan was scheduled to complete his bachelor’s degree in Construction Management at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, Massachusetts Summer 2022.

His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 26th at 10 AM in the International Church of the Nazarene, 286 Pleasant St., New Bedford. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, May 25th from 4-8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
