Obituary

Paul W. Hill, 71, of East Bridgewater died peacefully on May 19, 2022, surrounded by his loving family, after three years of treatment for bladder cancer.

The only son of the late Howard and Barbara (Randall) Hill of Whitman and the beloved husband of 50 years of Maureen (Blaine), Paul graduated from WHRHS ‘68 and Northeastern University, Class of 1973. He continued his Northeastern Co-op career at Chas. T. Main of Boston, bringing his young family to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for three years, where his youngest son was born. Paul finished his work career as a regional sales manager for Concord Foods of Brockton, a job he thoroughly enjoyed. His personality and likability enabled him to make many lasting friendships, especially with his three favorite brokers, Tim, Steve and Wilkie.

A three-sport athlete, he nurtured his own sons’ love of sports. His greatest enjoyment was first coaching his sons and then watching them continue their baseball careers through college and beyond. He and Maureen spent many wonderful years on a baseball field watching their two sons play ball. Paul developed a love of tennis in later years and was a fierce competitor on the courts.

Always generous and kind, he was the first to offer help whenever needed. His humor and good nature (when his stomach was full) made him the life of the party. He shared many funny sayings with his grandchildren and had special nicknames for everyone. Above all else, he loved his family the most.

Paul shared his passion for all Boston sports teams with his four best friends from childhood: Cliff, Dan, Ron and Steve. They could talk for hours on end, dissecting each football play, draft pick, home run, RBI’s and goals. He loved doing yard work, washing his car, walking his dog, Zoe and eating. He and Maureen spent many a happy vacation at a special cottage on Cape Cod and celebrated 50 years of marriage last September.

He will be greatly missed by the many people who enjoyed his sports analysis, humor and sincerity. He never did go to the Super Bowl, but he did live to see his son Roger play in the Stan Musial World Series for the Braintree White Sox, and his son Michael appointed as head baseball coach for Bentley University. He was so proud of his sons.

Paul was predeceased by his infant son, Daniel and his parents, Howard and Barbara Hill. He is survived by his wife Maureen, son Michael and his wife Cheri, son Roger and his wife Amanda and three grandchildren: Kiley, Wyatt and Wynnie, whom he adored. He will be greatly missed by in-laws Kathy and Ned Condon, James and Joyce Blaine, Barbara and Jim Silva and many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. Xin Gao, Dr. Francis McGovern, and Dr. Rory Weiner of MGH and the wonderful nurses of the NVNA for their extraordinary, compassionate care. They made his journey more bearable.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, May 26th from 4:00-7:00PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St (Rte. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. His funeral service will be held on Friday May 27 at 9:45 AM from the Chapel, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will be private at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Joslin Diabetes Center, Inc., One Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215 in honor of his grandson Wyatt Hill.
