Barbara A. (Pica) (Shimkus) Tisdell, 74, of Tewksbury, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at Lahey Clinic in Burlington after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late David L. Tisdell who passed away in 2000.
The daughter of the late Alfred Pica Sr. and the late Ruth (Russo) Pica, she was born June 13, 1947 in Woburn and was raised and educated there, graduating from Woburn High School. Since 1967, she made her home in Tewksbury.
For over twenty nine years, she worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Tewksbury State Hospital prior to her retirement in 2012. Spending time with her family and loved ones was her joy in life, especially when time was spent with her grandchildren and her dog Sofia. She enjoyed family cookouts and family gatherings as well as traveling, especially to Aruba and Louisiana.
She is survived by her children, James P. Shimkus Jr. and his wife, Roseanne (Montuori) of Lowell, Michael S. Shimkus and his wife, Joanne (Cicero) of Colebrook, NH, and Debra K. Versackas of of Tewksbury; also a very special niece Terri Lynn Pica of Arizona; her grandchildren, Andrea Shimkus, Jessica Shimkus, Allison Shimkus, all of Lowell, and Carolyn Versackas and her partner Ethan Versackas of Baltimore, MD, as well as Victoria Lyn Beauchesne-Cora and her husband Will Cora, and Jeremy Beauchesne. her brothers, Thomas Pica of Woburn, Alfred Pica Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Woburn; as well as several nieces, nephews, and friends.
On Monday, May 23, 2022, her graveside service will be held at the Tewksbury Cemetery at 10 a.m. for close family and friends.
