Irene L. (Iacovo) Litchfield, age 97 of Brockton, died May 13, 2022 at BayPointe Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her family after a brief period of failing health. She was the devoted wife of the late Howard Litchfield for 57 years.
Irene was born and raised in Brockton a daughter of the late Saverio and Elisa (Massaro) Iacovo and remained a lifelong resident of Brockton.
A 1942 graduate of Brockton High School, Irene went on to attend Bentley College, in the first class of women to be admitted during wartime. She held various positions in accounting in her younger years until becoming a stay at home mom.
Irene was a member of many charitable organizations: the PM club, the Women’s Guild and the Sons of Italy.
Irene was a lifelong athlete, she was an avid golf and tennis player. She had been a member of Thorny Lea Golf Course for 41 years and was the treasurer of the ladies’ division for many years. Most importantly, Irene cherished her time with her grandchildren and her large extended family.
Irene was the mother of Lisa Zani and her husband Dan of Bridgewater and grandmother of Brian McSherry of Easton and Alyssa McSherry of Jamaica Plain. She was the sister of Elena Iacovo of Brockton, Yolanda Kruger of E. Bridgewater and the late Serafino Iacovo, V. James Iacovo and Pasqualena Allaire.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St. (rte. 123) Brockton on Tuesday May 17, 2022 from 4-7pm. The procession will gather at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:30am for a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 12:30pm. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
