Cappelletti, Gino, 89, longtime resident of Wellesley, MA, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 12, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Keewatin, Minnesota in 1933, Gino was an original member of the AFL Boston Patriots from 1960-71. He was an integral part of the first 51 years of the Patriot organization contributing as an All-Star player for 11 years, assistant coach and radio broadcaster for 32 years. His many roles with the Patriots enabled him to him to be around football, a game he loved with a passion, for most of his life. Known as “The Duke” for his impeccable dressing style, Gino was the consummate gentleman. Supremely proud of his Italian heritage and Minnesota roots, Cappelletti is remembered by all who knew him to be authentic and humble. Gino was an avid golfer, nature lover, legendary story-teller, magician and Italian food aficionado.
Gino is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years Sandra, his three daughters Gina (Doug) Francis of Wellesley, MA, Cara (Tom) Waddle of Lake Forest, IL and Christina (Will) Lane of Durham, NC. He was known as “Papa” to his ten adoring grandchildren: Georgia, Angela, Ella, Lea, Julia, Jack, Olivia, Brock, Emersen and Ava. He is also survived by his sister Carol Atherton of Edina, MN. Gino was preceded in death by his parents Rose and Mario Cappelletti and his brother, Guido.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 18th from 4:00-8:00pm at George F. Doherty Funeral home at 477 Washington St., Wellesley, MA and a funeral Mass is scheduled on Thursday, May 19th at 10:00am at St. Ignatius Church on the Boston College campus at 28 Commonwealth Avenue, Chestnut Hill, MA.
