Obituary

WORCESTER–Robert “Bones” Kenary, 79, of Worcester died Thursday morning, May 4th suddenly at home. He leaves his wife of 53 years, Patricia (Dillion) Kenary; eight children, Donna P. Perry of Holden, Diane M. Harizi of Worcester, Stephen P. Kenary of Reading, Nancy J. Wong of Maui, Hawaii, Barbara A. Mc Gurn of Worcester, James F. Kenary of Holden, Joan M. Greenhalgh of Worcester, Robert J. Kenary of Worcester; a sister, Irene “Sis” Quinn of West Boylston; 12 grandchildren, Ryann, Mollie, Patrick, Matthew, Stephen, James, Andrew, Alex, Nick, Lauren, Danny and Patrick; one great grandson, Jared. He is predeceased by three brothers, James “Budd”, Paul J. and Francis R. Kenary.

Mr. Kenary was born in Worcester, the son of Stephen M. and Nora V. (Wrightson) Kenary and lived in Worcester all his life. He graduated from St. Peter’s High School, where he was the captain and an outstanding pitcher of the baseball team, known as the “Purple Leader.” He pursued a baseball career, achieving a semi-professional pitcher position with the New York Yankee minor league. He served as a Sergeant in the United States Army. Mr. Kenary was a well respected firefighter and served 25 years on the Worcester Fire Department, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Christ the King Church. Robert enjoyed his family, baseball, traveling, gardening and woodworking. He loved watching his grandchildren’s ball games. He was an endearing husband, a wonderful father and an awesome grandfather. He will forever be missed!

A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 10th, at 10:00 AM in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant Street. There are no calling hours. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, OH 44720. O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, is directing arrangements.
