Billy Fussell, 67, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Monday, May 9, 2022, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Thursday, May 12, 2022, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Barry Peavy officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
On October 14, 1954, Billy was born and raised in Ben Hill County. He was a graduate of Irwin County High School, class of 1972. He recently retired from a 30-year career with the United States Postal Service. Billy was a die-hard Georgia Bulldogs fan, loved music festivals and fishing with his family, and was a jack of all trades. He was a loving partner, a proud father, and the best Pops. Billy’s fun-loving, carefree spirit brought joy to everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his life partner, Belinda Sims Dixon of Fitzgerald; children and their spouses: Leah & Jonathan Dickens of Canton, Cara & Thadd Peavy of Adrian, Jena & Alexis Rainey of Atlanta, Cody Fussell and Kali Fussell, both of Fitzgerald, along with the mother of his children, Zelda Purvis of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Fletcher Dickens, Ellis Dickens, Lawson Dickens, Lucas Dickens, Kellan Peavy, and Lakelyn Peavy; other loved family: Jad & Erin Dixon and John Alan Dixon, III, all of Fitzgerald, Andee & Hal Carter and Millee, Mollee, Claire and Caroline Carter, all of Cordele, and Ashlee & Steve Manos and Euston Manos, all of Charleston, South Carolina; siblings: Carolyn Daniel of Irwin County, Harris Fussell of Irwin County, Martha “Cookie” & Johnny Marsh of Fitzgerald, Faye & Richard Gibbs of Irwin County, and Sarah Fussell of Irwin County; a sister-in-law, Jan Fussell of Fitzgerald; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.C. “Dick” & Frances Sumner Fussell; brothers: Curtis Fussell, Buddy Fussell, and Wayne Fussell; and two nieces: Jayne Fussell and Sheila Kaye Fussell.
