Carol E. Lucas, 79

Dateline: Frederick, Maryland

Carol E. (Dwyer) Lucas, age 79, most recently of Frederick, Maryland, formerly of Monument Beach and Mansfield, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at the John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland with her family at her side. She was the beloved wife of the late James N. Lucas, to whom she was wed for thirty-eight years at the time of his death on January 18, 2004.

Born in Boston, MA on December 10, 1942, she was a loving daughter of the late William P. and Doris E. (Dolan) Dwyer.

Carol grew up in Westwood, MA and was a 1960 graduate of Westwood High School. She continued her education, graduating from both Bentley College and Bryant College. She received a bachelor’s degree and later two master’s degrees, one in business administration and the other in corporate taxation.

Prior to retiring in 2018, Carol had worked as a corporate accountant, with a successful career, which spanned forty years. She relished her work during her time at the Foxboro Co., which subsequently became Invensys and later Schneider Electric.

Carol was a former longtime resident of Mansfield and Monument Beach and had relocated to Urbana, Maryland. She was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Mansfield, Saint John the Evangelist Church in Pocasset and Saint Ignatius of Loyola Church in Maryland. Her faith was an essential part of her life. Carol was actively involved in the Saint Vincent de Paul Society in Mansfield and was a longtime member and past president of the West Side Benevolent Circle in Mansfield.

Carol’s life was centered around her adoring family and helping others. She enjoyed spending time with her loved ones, especially at Christmas, and truly cherished the many memories created, summering at their home on beautiful Cape Cod. Her loving nature drew many people to her and she soon considered them to be her own. Carol's many friends were truly like family to her.

She is survived by her devoted daughters: Natalie A. Hudon and her husband Robert of Medway and Jennifer E. Cofone and her husband Christopher of Maryland. She was the cherished Grammy of Coltyon and Daniel. She was the dear sister of Joan Oakford of Pennsylvania, Nancy Cahoone of South Carolina, and is also survived by many treasured nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, May 15th from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 16th at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Margaret of Scotland Church, 141 Main Street, Buzzards Bay. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 12:30 P.M.

Due to the limited number of flowers allowed at the National Cemetery, donations in Carol's memory may be made to the West Side Benevolent Circle, P.O. Box 506, Mansfield, MA 02048.
