CHICOPEE – Shirley L. (Hanson) Haladyna, 92, a longtime resident of Harvey Street in the Mountview section of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on Monday, May 2, 2022. She passed into Eternal Life at the Palmer Healthcare Center surrounded by other residents and the excellent caregivers who assisted in making her so comfortable these past few years. She was born in Holyoke on August 20, 1929, a beloved daughter of the late Leonard R. Hanson and Beatrice (Mellen) Hanson. Her early years were spent in Holyoke where they lived at the Skinner Estate. At a young age, she moved with her parents to Chicopee where she graduated from Chicopee High School and continued to live for most of her life. She was employed for many years as a bank teller in Holyoke for Holyoke Savings Bank. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley B. Haladyna who was a Bomber Pilot with the United States Air Force and was presumed killed in action after his plane went missing following a bombing run on July 16, 1954 near the end of The Korean War. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her sister, Gaye M. (Hanson) DesRochers and her husband, Dr. Euclide C. DesRochers Jr. DDS. She leaves her four nephews, John Minerich and his wife, Vikki, of Palmer, Tom Minerich and his wife, Patricia, of Boothbay Harbor, ME, Euclide DesRochers and his wife, Robin, of Wilbraham and Guy DesRochers of Chicopee. Relatives and Friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours on Thursday, May 12, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon, followed by a Prayer Service at 12 Noon at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Prayer Service at Forestdale Cemetery, 304 Cabot Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
